Week two self study + tutorial
This week for self-study we did blender animation.
We had to create a basic humanoid model and once again I struggled.
When I started animating, I noticed the extra line running from the bottom of the body to the top of the head. It was too far at that point to fix, so some of the animations have the head-splitting apart, which is obviously an artistic decision and shouldn't be questioned. Another problem I had was no elbows. Bending the arm into itself doesn't really work so I tried to add an elbow afterwards so the arm could bend naturally but moving the hand made the elbow freak out and I didn't know how to fix that so sometimes the arm can go inside itself (another artistic design obviously).
Idle animation is the figure looking around and then scratching his ass:
The walking animation was hard because I couldn't really figure out how to model it and it looks very janky but it kind of loops:
The waving animation has the arm bending into itself which is awesome:
All in all, I did enjoy animating and prefer it over modelling but I don't think I've got a hidden talent in either.
In our tutorial, we played around with the subdivision and decimate modifiers for our barrel. I managed to highly optimize my barrel without changing its appearance at all.
I think it looks modern.
We also imported the blender model into Unity and created a small scene.
The untextured monument and the barrels are made by me (the barrel followed a tutorial).
The rocks are from this pack Fantasy landscape | 3D Environments | Unity Asset Store
The cars are from this pack ARCADE: FREE Racing Car | 3D Land | Unity Asset Store
The rubbish bins are from this pack Japanese Rubbish Bin | 3D Exterior | Unity Asset Store
The trees are from this pack Free Trees | 3D Trees | Unity Asset Store
The rock wall is just a whole bunch of duplicated rocks moved around. The bins are also seperate entities that I moved around so that there were two together. For the trees I resized them and moved them around. The barrels are weirdly placed. I moved one to grow off the medium sized tree and I created a barrel tower for fun. The monument was just placed behind everything else.
